Updated: Nov 28

PART ONE OF VIDEO OF HOW TO MAKE A CONCERTINA JOURNAL

PART TWO

PART THREE

PART FOUR AND FIVE OF HOW TO MAKE A CONCERTINA JOURNAL

To make this concertina album/notebook/journal you will need:

EQUIPMENT

Sharp scizzors

Paper cutter/guillotine (optional)

Ruler, pencil, glue (double sided tape, glue gun or glue stick).

Bone folder or smooth firm object for making neat folds (the side of a smooth pen)

Bull dog clip or pile of heavy books.

MATERIALS

  1. Two pieces of firm cardstock.  Cut to 4 x 6 inches.  A firm piece of card can be recycled from, the back cover of an old notebook, old birthday cards (glued together) or old packaging.  As it will be fully covered - any print that appears on the cardstock will be covered.

  2. Two sheets of patterned paper - cut to 5 x 7 inches.  You can use recycled wrapping paper or cut up magazine pages (the better quality the magazine the more sturdy these sheets will be) or use your own drawings/paintings.

  3. One piece of ribbon approx. 24 inches in length alternatively two pieces of ribbon each approx. 10 -12 inches in length.  Old carrier bag handles or old gift wrap can be recycled here. I have even used old torn fabric turned into frayed ribbon lengths.

  4. One sheet of good quality plain paper - 30 inches x 5.25 inches.  This can be watercolour paper  - especially with decker edges.  If you do not have a large sheet of paper to make this in one piece   - it can be made by neatly glueing together smaller sheets of paper and cut to size (a video will show you how you can achieve this). If you are using watercolour paper -I will show you how to create a deckle edge tear along the length of the paper.

  5. After completing steps to cover card stock and adding ribbon and folded paper to make pages - hold album together with bulldog clips or place under stack of heavy books until ready to use!

  6. The album can be made smaller or larger and can used to display photos, as an journal, art book or a notebook of any type.  It makes a great gift which of course can be personalized for your recipient - creating a very thoughtful touch.
